relativism is a bottomless pit.
you know that quote about being the change you wish to see in the world? i love it and have used it many times, but last night i was thinking... it implies superiority, doesn't it? it's like saying that you and your way of being is better than how others choose to be and they should all just think more like you. no?
and then i figured, well what's wrong with that? even though we'd like life to be a fairy tale, there simply are some things that are better than others- some philosophies that are clearly a better choice for everyone (if only they'd learn, snicker), and some ways of treating others that are downright appalling.
for example, it is pretty inconsistent to accept that we can categorize foods into "good" and "bad", yet when it comes to attitudes we're all relative and shit. what up? i mean, the only reason deep fried chicken is "bad" is because it will kill you at an earlier age, but that is assuming that you want to die old...
the words good and bad are relative words, they are transparent when standing alone. everything in our daily lives is categorized, yet we're supposed to force ourselves to think that all people are equal.
thus, i forget where i was going with this, but ya know...
