upon reaching into the fridge this evening and pulling out some old(er) celery with which to make stir fry for lunch, all i could think was:

limp celery embarrasses us all.

I love breakfast places that include pancakes with every meal you order. It's not on the menu, but oh baby, you get them cakes and they're tasty, tasty cakes, I tell ya whut. Along with the eggs, hash browns, and rye I might as well eat a bag of flour- but that's less satisfying, isn't it? I like to ingest my carbs, to feed my addiction, in as many different varieties as possible (but all in one sitting). Not a day goes by that I don't thank the Earth for producing wheat and for producing the human brain that thought to grind said wheat into delicious, delicious flour. Mm, mm good. All adjectives today will be repeated twice and twice only. Good, good times.

So on the way home from Sunday brunch I said good bye to my partner in consumption, and started walking homeward. I was completely unaware that I would be swept off my feet by such a valiant suitor. Such candor, such... as they say... balls.

His name was Roy and he was no boy though I think he had some ideas that may or may not rhyme with -oy.

"Excuse me, ma'am."

[ignore the voice, keep walking, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain]

"Excuse me, miss...?"

[turn around and he's right there, breathing down my neck, so I step back to ensure my own safety. he has chapped lips, like really chapped... scabby. his eyes are shifty and this does not surprise me. his appearance actually has little to do with anything, given the manner of this mid-walk interruption.]

"I'd like to introduce myself. Can I?"

"Sure."

"My name is Roy and I was wondering if I could have your number."

"Uhhh, no."

"Even if you just want a guy to do things for you?"

"Uhhm, yeah, no. That's ok."

"Alright, thanks."

And that was that- a cold Sunday morning continued as usual, I walked the rest of the way home wondering what I do almost every day:

What the fuck is wrong with people?!

Exeunt.

truly alone.

it's such a good feeling to realize and accept some of life's hardest truths. i find it humbling and empowering, and far more enjoyable than any kind of sex or chocolate cake.

instead of treated we get tricked.

sitting here on a cozy saturday afternoon, which actually is morning since i only got up an hour ago. pancakes and coffee have already been consumed, and i'm ready to go. and by go i mean i am ready to play guit-box and laze around the house until an acceptable hour when i can have some more wine. groceries need to be done today- i am sick of fish (that's all i have), rice noodles, and green peppers in curry/hoisin/garlic sauce. i mean, it tastes good but fuck (huh huh, buttfuck), enough already. in other news: i am having a love affair with tofu. not only have i always liked the taste/texture, but it's so easy to cook. no defrosting required, like with chicken or what-have-ye... straight in the pan. lisa showed me "tofu steaks" so sometimes when i stumble through the door drunkenly i'll fry up two slices of tofu and away we goooo.

a couple nights this week my dinner plans were thwarted by the hot dog stand being mysteriously absent from the sidewalk by the bus terminal. $2.50 for a veggie dog and fry up some green peppers to go with (see?) and we're set. i wonder where they went? maybe they were annoyed that i never returned to take a picture with him, or refuse to answer weird prying questions about my non-existent love life? whatever. i want my $2.50 dinner, even if it may be 80% comprised of newspaper clippings.

i found "hey rube" at BMV for $8 on a little walk last night, so i snatched it- very good. about 8 years out of date, but HST's writing is timeless. that was his last official book before he shot hisself in the face, and was now cheap enough for me to buy! three cheers.

tonght i'm heading to the sneak for saturday nach with HKDizzle. that's how we roll. how the rest of the evening will turn out? i do not know, but i suppose i may tell you about it in a month when i write another blog entry. but it's more likely i will write about the dramatically increasing number of windows in my socks... it's a hard knock life (for us).

it is unadvisable to start reading tommyknockers while dwelling alone in an apartment with a long hallway and dark corners.

took too long.

for me to realize that some things are worth leaving behind, especially when it comes to both of them.

you tell someone they're being an asshole, they admit it, and you figure they would try to maybe curb that... but maybe it's me who's wrong... maybe assholes will always answer their true calling. and i must answer mine- which happens to be in the opposite direction.

some douche called this morning to yell in my ear about something that wasn't our fault, but he would have any of that.

"i want a phone number, not a website."

"that's all i have."

"..."

"okay give me the website. oh yes, that's printed on the back of this flyer."

and then he just hung up on me. nothing incites more rage in me (okay, maybe a few things, but right now, just this) than being hung up on.

last night i had some fucked up dreams. i was so tired that i actually became untired (like drinking yourself sober except this is actually possible) and had trouble sleeping. in and out of apocalyptic, war-of-the-worlds-esque not-quite nightmares, sprinkled with demonic possession of my mother whose demon face actually looked like someone in Gwar. but i couldn't be sure since i only got the profile view.

if i was a kid i'd have been still scared, but it really didn't bother me that much (except being inside of it and not aware that it was indeed a dream, though come to think of it it all seemed pretty run-of-the-mill). i got up and went to the washroom, returned for more sleep...

inside more sleep i found a beyond-sight-high building which housed a grocery store at the bottom. i guess because of the apocalypse they locked up all their carts, because i tried to scale that barrier wall (to get mom a cart)(of course a barrier wall, what else would there be?), but it was tilted towards me and i surely would have careened to my cartless death. on the way out of the building i saw the cart lift made only for carts with piles of bent and broken ones lying at the base. i guess the machine was jammed with BODY PARTS... or something. you know, from the tripod aliens.

p.s. it's a loonie for shopping carts at zeller's, now. still a good price for a cart.

happy post.

the reason i ignore the news, for the most part, is because of days like today- a good friend works for a tour company with an office in kenya and has spent the week with no sleep in order to talk to them and keep up on what's going on... she said she got a text from one guy who said he heard screaming coming from his neighbour's house and that he was scared.

so i ignore the news a lot of the time because when i read shit like this:

"The president is expected to meet Tutu on Friday, though even before the meeting government spokesman Alfred Mutua said the country has no need for mediators. 'We are not in a civil war,' he said." (cbc.ca)

it makes me so angry i could spend the weekend in a crying ball in my bed. my heart goes out to them, what the fuck else can i do? protests and rallies here do nothing, i mean if a meeting with Tutu isn't going to help then why don't we just nuke the world and say fuck it? it seems we all have some unconscious want to die anyway, and surviving is simply what we're supposed to do.

fucking ants.

winter depression.

london party sometime before the holidays. the holidays are a vaccuum, they only exist in past and future tense. that shirt has a cravat and diamond buttons.

the best i can come up with is that there were two people blocking my way at dominion at college park today and i purposely stood still for about ten seconds to see what they'd do. over my earphones (which were over my hat) i heard the girl say excuse me, to which i barged through and shook my head in passive-aggressive disgust.

chicken 'n' biscuits.

Mm, biscuits. I got a fever and the only prescription is heavily quoted saturday night live sketches.

So the year wasn't all that bad, many good things happened to offset the not so good things and all was well with the world, okay not really. There were ups and downs and vague recollections of events applicable to anyone at any given time and they were like some sort of crazy amusement park ride- the teacups. Life is like a ride in the teacups- underestimated and more fun than the screaming children in the line would infer.

I suppose my biggest accomplishment was/is moving out on my own. Been here since June, and I really feel like life is starting to take shape, even in the smallest of ways. Mistakes slip by a little more smoothly, and 'round these parts the coffee runs like water. Our very first party occurred last night to warm the house (with bodies and live music by Science!), and to usher in another year of what ifs and maybes and some serious high-fiving.

No, I really shouldn't complain because not only did I get to see some of my long-time close friends, I had the opportunity to reconnect with some, and form unexpected bonds with complete strangers.

In fact, one might be tempted to say (if one were writing a blog entry) that this year, despite not being the best of the best, was indeed a good transition.

Sometimes I really have to put forth an effort to put the kibosh on my own negativity, and it's worth it every time.

"HUZZAHHHHHH!"

workstation

Oh yeah, got some cool lights. Welcome to the matrix.
